Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 Review

The new Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 smartphone is designed for those who always need to be connected, whether it’s for business or personal pleasure. Running on Microsoft’s latest Windows Mobile 6.5 OS, the successor to the X1 is also equipped with an improved touch interface, 3D signature panels and host of other new features that blur the boundaries between work and play, the company said. The X2 supports HSDPA networks and offers a 3.2in TFT resistive touchscreen that displays an image at up to 480 x 800-pixel resolution.

The Windows Mobile phone sports the new SlideView screen, which provides quick access to frequently-used phone functions such as contacts, messages, media and more. The screen will also notify users of missed incoming activities such as calls, e-mails and text messages at a glance.

Additionally, the device offers 10 preloaded panels — with options to download 16 more — from Skype, Mytopia and Google, to games, CNN and Windows Live. These panels provide users with up-to-date information on news that matter most to them. Users can set their favourite panel to appear during certain times of the day. For instance, they can get the latest news from CNN in the morning, YouTube during lunch hour and Facebook after work hours, where they can use the slide-out Qwerty keyboard to type a quick status update.

The device has an 8.1-megapixel camera with 16x digital zoom and image stabiliser. The built-in A-GPS allows users to geotag their pictures to remind them where it they were taken. The X2 has 110MB of internal memory to store data, and this can be expanded via micro SDHC cards. The card slot can handle up to a 16GB card. Other noteworthy features include Bluetooth with A2DP profile, stereo speakers, TV-out and WiFi.
