{image1}
Verizon has come up with Verizon Droid Smartphone that is potentially the best out there. It is a direct rival to the Apple's iPhone 3g. The best part is that the OS that chips with the phone is Google's Android 2.0. The body is metallic making the phone very sturdy. This is quite thoughtful considering how mobiles are prone to be dropped.

The phone is blindingly fast! The computing power comes from a 600 MHz TI OMAP 3430 CPU. The processor is a multimedia application processor and delivers up to three times better performance than ARM 11 based processor, according to TI. Although I can't verify the claim, I can certainly say that the speed with which the apps load and run is just plain amazing.
The form factor of Droid is slider. It has a slider QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard is a soft touch one with a rubberized finish. Typing messages and emails is very comfortable due to the soft touch keyboard. It is a bit of question whether the keyboard is durable, but the comfort of typing is enough to overlook this detail.

The accessories that come shipped with the Droid include a desktop cradle, which also acts as a charger and turns into a multimedia station. It supports micro SDHC cards for storage. It has a 5 MP camera with autofocus. The quality of the photos captured with the phone was not bad at all. And with a maximum resolution of 5 MP to boot, you can get the photos printed without any blurring.
The most important feature of any phone is the screen. The screen is what makes or breaks a Smartphone. Many technically good phones have been rejected by the public because of less than average screen quality. So how does the Droid fare? It has a 3.7 inch display, which is just huge and offers a more than decent resolution of 854 by 480. The movies, games and pictures all were crystal clear and really sharp. This might be thanks to the 16 million color support. The screen has an eye-pleasing feel.

The phone has been designed with attention to detail. The only thing that may keep it from being the most popular Smartphone is the presence of Apple's iPhone 3g. Although the Droid scores over the iPhone in many departments, the iPhone has become a bit of a fashion symbol. And also, there are gazillion apps available over the internet for the iPhone.

Whether or not it surpasses iPhone in number of units sold, technically at least it is much superior the iPhone and also all the other smart phones for that matter. It is a phone that is easy to live with thanks to the fast processor, a comfortable physical keyboard and a huge screen. It is scores highly in every department, it is a good looking phone, is sturdy and is technically sound. Droid is a sure shot winner from Verizon.

1 Vote(s)

{image1}
When it arrives, the i5700 Spica this Android smartphone will come armed with an AMOLED touchscreen. You might be wondering what makes it different from the earlier i7500 phone that Samsung brought to you sometime ago. Samsung will be lifting the wraps off its Android phone as a follower to its entry-level i7500 model.

The fact is that the new smartphone will be almost similar to the i7500. The difference, if any would be the presence of a 3.2MP flash-less camera and 100MB of internal memory. We, at this point, wonder why Samsung has made provisions for only 100MB for apps. May be, the phone maker will do something about that just in time for the release.

Other features include the usual ones - Bluetooth, HSPDA and Wi-Fi . The Galaxy Lite will come powered by a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7200A processor and will also house GPS and FM radio features. With video demos doing the rounds, we believe the official launch may not be far off.

1 Vote(s)

<youtube>HQHTryLFafs</youtube>
Here's a collection of stories about Research In Motion (NSDQ: RIMM) and its Blackberries for a sunny summer afternoon. According to reports, the new BlackBerry Tour is a big hit and moved lots of units since its July 12 debut. Also, Verizon (NYSE: VZ)'s inventory system has added more clues about the Storm 2.

According to a screen grab posted by The Boy Genius, the BlackBerry Storm 2 -- aka 9550 -- is headed to a Verizon store near you. Well, at least the dummy version of it is. (Dummies are the non-working display units that customers can put their hands all over without Verizon fearing a lot of broken inventory.) The SKU has shown up in Verizon Wireless' inventory system. The presence of the SKU doesn't necessarily mean that a release is imminent, but it's the next shred of proof that the device exists at all, and is on the way -- perhaps as soon as the next few months.

Furthermore, some claim to have discovered more details about the Storm 2's spec list. The specs include:

CDMA 1xRTT/EVDO Rev. A
Quad-band GSM/EDGE
Single-band UMTS/HSDPA (2100MHz only)
Wi-Fi b,g
3.2 megapixel camera
360Ã-480 resolution capacitive screen
OS 5.0
These are on-par with previous reports and aren't too different from the original Storm. The biggest change of course is that the Storm 2 will have Wi-Fi, where the original does not.

As for the BlackBerry Tour, analysts think that Verizon Wireless has a genuine hit on its hands. Subscribers looking for QWERTY-equipped BlackBerries from Verizon have been stuck with the Curve for what feels like forever. Analysts believe that Verizon and its retail partners moved between 275,000 and 300,000 BlackBerry Tours in the first 24 hours it was available.

Neither Verizon nor RIM have confirmed these numbers, but it's not too hard to believe, given the pent-up demand for a good new BlackBerry for Verizon's customers.

1 Vote(s)

<youtube>19_rqa7xSzc</youtube>
The Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot has managed to create a real stir in the mobile community. It's the first GSM handset that ships with the whopping 8 megapixels worth of camera goodies and such things simply cannot go unnoticed.

You've probably already gone through the news scoop and you know the sweet details - face detection, smart contrast, both a xenon flash and a photo flash, as well as geotagging complete the camera feature set. A 2.4-inch QVGA TFT display with scratch-resistant mineral glass cover will serve you as a viewfinder.

The Sony Ericsson C905 seems like an excellent high-end cameraphone - our old trustworthy 8 megapixel Canon EOS-1D Mark II N is already starting to feel a wee bit threatened. Will it keep its job?

The Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot also comes with a built-in accelerometer for screen auto rotation, TV-out port, GPS and, wait for it … Wi-Fi support. Yes, that's true wireless networking on a regular feature phone.

And did we also mention the quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity, the UMTS and HSDPA support, stereo Bluetooth (that's A2DP for the nerd group), USB and FM radio with RDS? Well, it is a nice feature combo by all standards. And it so happens, that we managed to sneak it for a quick hands-on.

Truth be told, the Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot has obviously never heard of diets and healthy food. With a thickness of 18mm (up to 19.5 in its thickest part), it's a seriously fat fella - at least by feature phone standards. There are other really popular smartphones that take the thickness problem even further, but the C905 Cyber-shot is not a smartphone.

1 Vote(s)
